How It Works
Mission Statement –
Emotional Wellness Matters is committed to providing a high quality educational and marketing tool for psychotherapists in private practice. A psychotherapist needs to project a feeling of integrity, confidence, credibility, and professionalism to the world.. Therapists should adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of their everyday lives and in their dealings with clients and the community at large. We, as psychotherapists, display our warmth, genuineness, and ability to relate to the inner concerns of people. EWM is designed to achieve these goals.
The Benefits to You –
Education to the Community
Distributing newsletters provides an opportunity to disseminate psychoeducational material to the community. This is compatible with your professional ethical obligations and is a genuine public service. This in turn enhances your professional credibility and gives you a marketing edge over other therapists who do not do this.
EWM is designed as a quality publication which is professionally written on topics of interest to the reader. It is written for the reader at a level they can relate to. It can bring up topics for psychotherapy sessions that might otherwise be overlooked, and these topics can attract new clients to your private practice.
A Way to Stay in Continuing Contact with Clients
Sending out the newsletter carries the implicit message that you care and are concerned about maintaining an ongoing relationship with your clients. By sending out the newsletter, you can stay active in the lives of clients (current, inactive and former clients) when they receive the newsletter on an ongoing basis. This increases the probability that they will return to you and refer their friends to you. (Your best source of referrals is your clients.)
Increase Your Exposure in the Community
Newsletters can increase your exposure in the community. The design of EWM presents your color photograph on the front page, along with your biographical information, with high visual impact. People want to know what their therapist looks like before coming in for the first time. You can include a copy of the newsletter in a packet of intake and informational materials that you give or mail to first-time clients. When you send the newsletter out to other professionals (like doctors, attorneys, and other referral sources), they will feel that they already know you on a certain level – and this increases the chances of referrals from them. (Note: newsletters are effective as an advertising method, but they work best over time – it may take a few months before a reader is converted to a referral source.) Because of your increased exposure in the community, you may have more opportunities for public speaking engagements and media exposure. And if you do speak in public, handing out the newsletters to the audience is an effective way of keeping your name and contact information in peoples’ minds – they may throw out your business card or brochure, but not a newsletter with information that’s valuable to them.
Low Cost
The cost of the newsletters is low compared with other forms of advertising, and it qualifies as a tax-deductible business expense. One or two client hours can pay for a two-month supply of newsletters – and the rewards to your practice are immense. It more than pays for itself in just a short time.
What Our Current Subscribers Say –
EWM has been in business since September, 1993, and has cultivated a group of loyal subscribers, many of whom have been receiving EWM for years. They have come to depend on it for the growth and maintenance of their practices. We distribute the newsletter to therapists (mostly marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors, clinical social workers, psychologists, along with a few psychiatrists) across the U.S. and Canada.
Current subscribers tell us that their practices have regenerated since they started sending out newsletters. Former clients, as well as their friends, are walking in the door again. Exposure in the community has increased the number of referrals our subscribers have received from other professionals and agencies. We have often been told that sending out a newsletter is a therapist’s most cost-effective form of advertising. Our current subscribers really love this newsletter – they like its quality and the relevance of the articles to the lives and concerns of their clients.
Take a Look at the Topics of the Back Issues We Have Available
EWM is Available in Several Different Formats –
The Hardcopy Version
Most subscribers take the hardcopy version. EWM is a four-page newsletter produced once every two months. Your photo and bio are featured prominently on the front page, and the back page shows your return address so that they are easily mailed (for the newsletters you send out, give them a Z-fold, stick a mailing label on them, stamp them, and send them out). You can include a group photo if you are in a group practice, or put two photos on the front page. You can also use a logo instead of (or in addition to) a photo.
Check out our prices for different quantities of the hardcopy version.
The Text-Only Version
If you prefer to receive only the text of each bimonthly newsletter so that you can format in your own way or add the text of each issue to your website, the cost is $70 per issue. The text will be sent to you via an email attachment.
The Web-Friendly PDF Version
The PDF version for the web is identical to the hardcopy version of the newsletters and includes your imprint information and photo. This version is appropriate for including on your website and is “lighter” than the PDF printable version for a quicker download, usually 84dpi. It comes in a four-page format rather than two pages across for easier readability. You can provide a link on your website to several issues of EWM. Or, if you prefer, you can send out emails with the link included so that your recipients can just click on the link to access the issue. The web-friendly PDF version costs $90 per issue, although discounts are available if you also take the hardcopy version. This version will be sent to you by Paul Hartsuyker, our graphic designer, and for a reasonable fee, he can insert it onto your website or instruct you in how to do it. He can also design or revise your website.
The Printable PDF Version
The printable PDF version, which also costs $90 per issue, is identical to the hardcopy version and includes your bio, photo, and return address. This version is spread two pages across and requires that you have a printer that prints 11" by 17" pages and is set to print resolution (300dpi). The advantage of this version is that you can print as many copies of the newsletter as you like and the image print quality is excellent. This version is sent directly to you by our graphic designer. It can also be requested as an 8.5" by 11" page format of four pages that you can print onto two sheets if you do not have the larger printer. Please indicate your preference when ordering.
The HTML Version
The HTML version, which also costs $90 per issue, looks very similar to the hardcopy version with your imprint information and photo, and is appropriate for sending out as an email to your recipient list. The first page contains your photo and bio, and the recipient would click on links at the bottom of each page to get to pages 2, 3, and 4. To work effectively, all four pages need to be posted to your website. You can then "embed" the first page into the email that you send out, or just send the link. The "embedded" version provides an attractive color insert to the email with the link to your site for the remaining pages. Either method allows for a very short download time. This version is sent to you directly by our graphic designer, Paul Hartsuyker. He can assist you if you have questions about implementing this version, as it also requires uploading to your site.
